Falling Satellite Warning: Don't forget to wear your helmet.

So if you haven't heard, there have been a couple of "missing satellites" that have recently found their way back to Mother Earth in a rather short period of time.  Being at the forefront of modern technology, these satellites have served their purpose and it is only fitting that they retire--into the UNKNOWN.  Yes, apparently tracking the satellites requires more than a degree in rocket engineering.  It's apparently super easy to lose track of them pesky satellites when they enter the atmosphere.  The most recent is a German one, but not too long ago I recall NASA saying "whoops" too.  <--click to read more bout that.

I can hear the rocket engineers now, "...in all fairness, once it enters the atmosphere, it's a job for the meteorologists *chuckle chuckle, wink wink*."

But seriously... "Somewhere over Asia" is not the most reassuring estimation. At least approximate more than the largest continent on Earth.  Thanks!

Amazing, I read Yahoo news to giggle about the typos

Really, I read yahoo news because I like its interface, it's easy on the eyes (mine at least).  But man don't you think a news story on the web would be 12309!82 times easier to proof read considering you got, i dono, forever to update it?

I remember a friend of mine expressing this little peeve of his and I couldn't help but think he was a little... uppety bout spelling?  He is kinda book wormsy--although he dedicates his powers to fantasy leagues instead of evil.  Nonetheless, it made me laugh a little, until I thought about it more deeply.  If the internet serves "virtually" as a library of sorts--where news paper print has become tree-friendly--then it's a wonder why some Yahoo webmaster doesn't just occasionally read the HEADLINES from time to time?  or I don't know, the person who reported it?

Otherwise, as the joe shmoe internet news reader, i really could give two shits.  It's not like typos are grammar mistakes... unless they are, in which case f-u for wasting my-- oh wait, yahoo news is free.  :-D

The pleasures and pain of automatic "does it for you"

This could easily turn into a discussion of the benefits of autonomy versus the burdens and responsibilities.  I would love to write that when I have time.  But I don't.

Before the horrible idea of Google Instant, there was Microsoft Word's incessant "autocorrection."  How did I not see this before!?

Granted, auto correct does come in handy, but I would bet that I'm un-auto-correcting things more often than I'm depending on it.

Strange Weather Patterns

I'm no meteorologist, nor do I need to be in order to say that the weather has been funky lately.  How far back does "lately" extend to, that is a matter of opinion that I'll leave to the meteorologists to bicker about.  But yes, things are weird, that's for sure.

Forgive me for what will be a rather insensitive post, but I'm tired of hearing people bitch about the rich.  It's become such a trend in itself to moan about "elitist rich folk" that I'm starting to wonder if this trend wasn't created by some rich guy in order to make himself more money.

Seriously, how much more INSTANT does google need to get?  Am I that dependent on google's amazing search system that I need them to find the "search" button and push it for me before I can do it myself?

Dirty cops

There's something interesting when hearing about dirty cops.  It's not the fact that it simply deals with a crime, but more importantly a question of infrastructure.  Police serve a function for the public that is in a position of unique authority: the ability to personally limit one's liberty when necessary.  Such authority is kept in check by protocol and such, but it's really the acceptance by society that the job deserves our faith.  Unfortunately, taking advantage of this good faith is what allows an abuse of power.

Safe Sex: Almost good enough even for a Pope

Apart from apparently having insatiable sex drives, many Africans paradoxically maintain some strong Christian-Catholic beliefs...

But let's step back a little Africa has been battling AIDS for god knows how long, and when there's some news to hear it usually doesn't ever seem like it's gonna be the good kind. Really, when the countries of Africa aren't being plagued by corrupt governments, turmoil and chaos, natural catastrophies, pirates, military coups, starvation, exploitation, genocide, war and the occasional cough and sniffles---the continent is usually getting smacked around by the HIV virus and AIDS or some other epedemic.

So, where abortion seems like a difficult discussion, the use of condoms in a place where an STD is killing the masses?? Abstinence is a great solution for an ideal world- but that's like telling smokers to simply quit smoking. Problem solved?

It's a principle the church should be willing to bend on.... the war will go on, but this battle of "no condoms" isn't always the one to fight... AIDS comes first.

Late Night Talk Shows: it's not as easy as it looks.

So most people may not know what the show "El Homiguero" is unless you've been around Spain or you're just a freak of international pop culture. Anyways, it's basically the closest thing Spain has for a late night talk show. I actually like it because apart from being one of the few live shows (which has a certain charm) it tries really hard to be a hot spot for stars and musicians just like any late night show, in spite of the fact that a star is completely unable to speak spanish. The problem is, this doesn't always go the smoothest.

Unoriginal, yet practical!

So in my effort to give this "blog" of sorts a value above that of utter shight I've decided I'll make it a spot of sharing more than anything. Videos, news stories, pictures, other blogs and the occasional two cents from yours truly. So while it will seep down into unoriginality and lose it's connection to my personal happenings, I'd rather it be less personal, more factual and finally seeing where that goes. Kinda like what everybody does on facebook and twitter (and blogs) already.

This blog needs something

This blog really means jack to me. It's a source of distraction more than anything. But because of this it kinda urks me. If I didn't fill it with so much boring shit I think it'd be a source of distraction that actually means something to me!

So I'm gonna give it a little more direction. The whole livejournal blog isn't doing it for me. Sharing your heart with the world is for pansies and ROCK STARS and right now I'm neither, although sometimes I do enjoy a tupperware party from time to time with the girls and--nevermind.
