The importance of dreams

This post is a little rant unconcerned with the news or real events.  It's real life stuff, nonetheless, even if it talks about dreams.

I work with kids and I really want them to succeed.  At what, exactly?  Can they do ANYTHING they want to do?  Obviously not all of them can, and odds are most won't.  I don't like force-feeding children the pretty white lies... but it'd take an idiot not to realize why we do it.

Children aren't adults yet, and accepting the hard facts is something you transition into.  Why? Because the risk of failure is daunting, and humans normally overreact to what scares them.  Falling off a bike is temporarily the only reason to "never" get back on.  I've seen a child scared into doubting his ability to say his own name.  That kind of attitude is far more dangerous than any naive "I can do anything!" way of thinking..  First children must learn that failing can simply be a part of eventually succeeding.  The question of realizing success is not always guaranteed in spite of failure is something a bit more appropriate for when they can wrap their heads around it.
